I just finished watching Blue Thunder (1983) on ShowTime, and thought hey, it's a movie, I can post something about it here.
Roy Schneider does an excellent job in this movie, where he plays Frank Murphy, a Police Helicopter pilot who's given the chance to pilot a new hi-tech police gunship. During the course of the movie he finds out that there are people that have a better idea of what this gunships firepower could be used for.
The aerial shots in this movie are excellent, you an tell they were done in an actual helicopter, and not on a computer. The climax comes as Blue Thunder does a full loop to fall in behind the villain and take him out in classic Hollywood dogfight style.
Many talk about how that scene is impossible, but the reality is that it's impossible for the Gazzelle the French helicopter that is used in that movie, but there are a few helicopters that can do loops and roles. I remember seeing a special on History channel or one of those a few years ago where they were talking about it.
Anyway, this is a good movie to have in your collection if you can still find it anywhere. If not make sure you see it on Showtime.
