The Tailor of Panama

Pierce Brosnan, Jaimie Lee Curtis, and Geoffrey Rush star in this movie about a British spy going to Panama where he meets a Tailor who spins a web of lies that leads to The Americans invading Panama to take back the Canal.

On the surface, this movie sounded like it might be a good movie, Brosnan usually does an excellent job in his movies, and they rarely turn out to be a flop, and when another week went by that Best Buy and Fry's didn't have any of the good new releases I thought I would give it a try.

Let me just say this, about 2 hours long, and it felt like 5 or 6 hours, the plot progressed that slow.  There was little or no action, and the plot barely existed.

Save yourself the money, take the kids to the park, or wash the dog, do laundry, hell even clean the cat liter box, all of these things will being you more enjoyment than this movie.  If you must sit down and watch it, make sure you set an alarm clock to wake you up when it's over.

The Departed

Leonardo DeCaprio stars as a Rookie Cop who's been recruited to help bring down mob boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson), while at the same time trying to avoid being found out.

This is an EXCELLENT movie, and well worth seeing, and having in your collection.  You cannot go wrong with Jack Nicolson or Leanardo DeCaprio, and having them both in the same movie is a sure winner.

The Marine

John Cena stars in this movie about a Marine discharged from the Iraq war who is trying to readjust to life stateside.  While on a road trip his wife is kidnapped by a group of bank robbers, and he is forced into a chase to save his wife.

This is a good action movie to have when company comes over, its got some good one liners, and it's full of mindless shooting, and trying to kill this Marine.

I saw this at the theater, and when it was released on DVD I had to buy it, but I won't open it until someone visits that wants to watch it.

Blue Thunder

I just finished watching Blue Thunder (1983) on ShowTime, and thought hey, it's a movie, I can post something about it here.

Roy Schneider does an excellent job in this movie, where he plays Frank Murphy, a Police Helicopter pilot who's given the chance to pilot a new hi-tech police gunship.  During the course of the movie he finds out that there are people that have a better idea of what this gunships firepower could be used for.

The aerial shots in this movie are excellent, you an tell they were done in an actual helicopter, and not on a computer.  The climax comes as Blue Thunder does a full loop to fall in behind the villain and take him out in classic Hollywood dogfight style.

Many talk about how that scene is impossible, but the reality is that it's impossible for the Gazzelle the French helicopter that is used in that movie, but there are a few helicopters that can do loops and roles.  I remember seeing a special on History channel or one of those a few years ago where they were talking about it.

Anyway, this is a good movie to have in your collection if you can still find it anywhere.  If not make sure you see it on Showtime.
