Smokin' Aces

I went to see this movie at Grapevine Mills Mall, and I have to say it's obvious that even the manager of the theater thought it was so bad it wasn't worth his time to adjust the screen so the entire movie was displayed.  They had the projectors set up so that the the movie was overlapping onto the curtains.  For me this is a quick way to ruin a movie, but in this case it fit right into the style of movie. I got the feeling that the director was going for retro feel to the filming of this movie,...

No More Best Buy or Fry's References

For the past three weeks now I have been trying to buy the latest new releases in Blu-Ray, with little to no luck on the ones that I REALLY want, like The Illusionist... Each weekend I make my typical geek trip from my house to Fry's Electronics, then to Best Buy, and then lunch and to the theater. This mornings trip disappointed me for the final time. This morning I walked in to Best Buy, went directly to the movies expecting to spend $200 or so on new releases, and then walked out with The Guardian, and a gut wrenching...

Digital Rights Management

Digital Rights Management (DRM), and it's impact on the consumer is about the biggest mess I have ever seen, and it's only getting worse, not better.  The music industry thinks that they are being hurt by P2P sharing of music, and the iPods and other MP3's are the evil wares of the corrupt youth's of America. Now it's starting to look like the movie industry is jumping on the band wagon here too.  The only thing hurting these industries are themselves.  They are investing BILLIONS into the media and congress trying to propogate this "Poor Me" image, and they are taking...

Hitch

I remember seeing the trailers for this movie, and thinking WOW that's going to be a good movie, Will Smith will never let you down for Comedy, Eva Mendes will blow you away with her looks, and her acting will knock your socks off.  Bring them together and you have the makings of a number one movie. Well it didn't work out for me to go to the theater and see this movie, and after seeing it on Blu-Ray I'm sorry I never made time for it. Will Smith plays a matchmaker in New York, and Eva Mendes is a reporter for...

Rocky Balboa (2006)

When I saw the trailers for this movies I couldn't but laugh, and ask WHY?  But there was something about the trailers that kept me thinking about this movie, and when it hit the theaters a few weeks ago, I figured why not just go see it as a matinée, and save a few buck and be able to laugh about Stallone's "Come back" to acting. I grew up watching the Rocky Movies, and they always had a way of making you think that Rocky could take that kind of beating, and still come back and win so could you.  These...

References to Best Buy

Someone recently pointed out that I reference Best Buy a lot in the reviews that I do, and they asked if I was some how sponsored by Best buy.  This got me thinking and I wanted to take a minute an mention this a little bit. I'm in no way sponsored by any company that I discuss other than perhaps Justice Software Solutions, but since I own JSS, I am not sure you could even say it sponsors this blog either.  The movies I review are movies that I have went out and bought to add to my library. Since I am a...

Welcome

Some of my friends would find it ironic that I would start a blog for Movie Reviews, and in some ways it is.  I'm not one that can remember Actress' and Actors name, and in many cases I don't even remember the names of the movies.  If someone is talking about a movie I have to ask what the plot is before I even know what it is that they are talking about. A friend and I go to the movies almost every weekend as a way to get out of the house, so for the past couple of years I...
